For me, technology gets mapped with the Egyptian civilization and the Mohenjo Daro Civilization. So, whether it is chemistry, which made Gold or it is engineering, which made Pyramids or dyes which made colors or Clothing which show textiles have to be all seen with reference to the ancient civilizations , as the starting point of technology.
Therefore, where modern man boosts about technology in the year 2010 has to look back in 2200 BC and see, if with all its knowledge, equipments, tools and networking, has really achieved much in the 4000 years.
If you ask me personally, I would say, it is a product of lazy thinking and very low level of advancement . If nomadic man had already made Gold, silver, copper, dyes and made huge structures like pyramids without any knowledge of modern mathematics ( or perhaps knew more mathematics then the modern man ) or without the use of heavy construction equipments came up with the structures which survived 4000 years.
Textile knowledge must have started sometime then and has marginally moved up in terms of mechanical production, but in terms of basic science, it still stands in time.
Textile is a very low technology science and very little has actually happened in it , other then the man made fibre science. Where artificial fibres have reduced the burden of the agriculture production to generate enough fibers to clothe mankind.
I will explore in my blogs , how , textile technology and management has remained primitive and why the growth potential did not get exploited.
